During the Manchurian invasion of China, the son of the Ming Dynasty General takes refuge in the Shaolin Temple to learn martial arts, so that he may seek revenge for his dead father. But he must first endure the rigorous test of the temple's legendary 18 Bronzemen. 

Despite the national resistance, the Manchurians have taken over China, but the Ching Emperor fears that the Shaolin Temple disciples would overthrow the dynasty. So he disguises himself as a disciple, in order to become a kung fu master and control the Shaolin monks. But according to custom, he must pass the test of the legendary 18 Bronzemen before he can leave the Temple...  

The evil Ching government has taken over and is out to rid the land of the remaining Ming rebel patriots, including the still surviving Ming Prince. Unknowingly, the evil Ching overlord and his men capture the incognito Prince and throw him in jail. Hearing word of the Prince's capture, Shao Chang and Fang Ping mount a rescue effort to get the Prince before his identity is found out. 

Rescued from his house as a child and sent to the Shaolin Temple, Chu Shiao Chieh learns the martial arts and the virtues of patience and mercy. Upon reaching manhood, Chu sets out to reunite with his blind mother and cousin. His refusal to involve himself in fighting injustices is challenged when the Eight Masters kidnap his mother as revenge for his father's misdeeds. 

Two warlord chiefs, a ton-fa wielder who can destroy an opponents weapon and a Tai Chi expert that is impervious to weapons, send a pair of killers to track down and kill an old master swordsman who has given up fighting. When the killers assassination attempt is foiled by a group of kung fu students from a nearby school, the chiefs themselves come to the school to deal with the master swordsman and anyone else who gets in their way. When the schools head master dies defending the swordsman and his daughter, the schools 3 most senior students vow to avenge the deaths and begins a quest to annihilate the warlord chiefs. One by one, they end up facing a man so skilled in tai chi kung fu that it seems as if he were 'Born Invincible'.

A series of killings ravage a Buddhist temple and one of its disciples is a suspect. A corrupted Emperor seeks out a valuable piece of treasure while giving the monks a month to recover the gift or die. 

A fighter confronts a rogue master armed with weapons capable of severing a head from 100 feet away. 

As a child, Yang witnesses the murder of his parents by three kung fu masters. The child finds his way to Shaolin and patiently waits outside until admitted and is later accepted as a student by one of the elder monks. Yang has no trouble leaving the temple ready to find the killers and make mincemeat of them.
